TOLEDO, Ohio, June 21, 2024 – MOTILE, developer of portable Modular Terrain Surfaces, is providing automotive manufacturers and vehicle testing organizations with a new approach to recreating real-world road conditions for quality, engineering and validation applications.
MOTILE’s modular system allows testing teams to bring specific road conditions directly to the vehicle instead of relying exclusively on permanent test infrastructure or inconsistent public-road testing. Individual surfaces can be configured to reproduce different vehicle inputs, giving teams a controlled and repeatable environment for testing at assembly plants, engineering facilities, proving grounds, repair operations and other locations.
One of MOTILE’s key applications is Buzz, Squeak and Rattle (BSR) validation.
BSR conditions can be particularly challenging because noises may only become apparent when a vehicle encounters a specific combination of vibration, suspension input or road surface. Conditions experienced during one road test may not be easily reproduced during another, making consistent diagnosis and validation difficult.
MOTILE gives quality and engineering teams the ability to intentionally recreate those conditions in a controlled environment.
Three Road Conditions. One Modular Surface.
The MOTILE 3-in-1 Surface combines three distinct road profiles into one compact modular testing system. As a vehicle travels across the system, each section introduces a different type and level of vehicle input, helping expose BSR conditions that may not appear during normal driving.
The system can be used to help teams identify potential noise conditions, investigate their source, make corrections and then repeat the same test to validate the repair.
Beyond BSR testing, MOTILE Modular Terrain Surfaces can support a variety of vehicle quality, durability, engineering and validation applications. Systems can be configured using different surface profiles based on the testing requirements of a particular vehicle, facility or program.
