Brace for impact: Shock testing in the electric vehicle era

23 Oct 2025
Thursday, October 23, morning session
As electric and new energy vehicles (NEVs) continue to evolve, ensuring the mechanical robustness of high-voltage components – particularly battery modules – has become a critical safety and reliability priority. This presentation will provide an overview of key shock testing standards applicable to EV systems, including IEC, UN ECE R100, SAE and ISO, among other requirements. It will also explore test methods such as half-sine, trapezoidal pulse profiles commonly used to simulate road, impact and dynamic crash scenarios. In addition, the session will highlight the types of shock test equipment used in both R&D and validation environments, comparing pneumatic, hydraulic and sled systems for performance, repeatability and compliance with evolving standards.
  • Key shock standards
  • Pulse shapes and real-world correlation
  • Test equipment comparison
  • Battery safety
  • Test examples
