EV Powertrain Instrumentation Solutions for Force, Torque, and Temperature Measurements

21 Oct 2025
Tuesday, October 21 - afternoon session
Collecting data on EV motors presents unique challenges. High temperatures, EMI, and packaging constraints can complicate or compromise instrumentation efforts. These challenges within powertrain development are often shared by HV and Hydrogen ICE vehicles. Electric Vehicles experience many of the same challenges as conventional ICE vehicles when it comes to areas like vehicle dynamics, tire wear and performance, ride and handling characterization, braking system characterizations, and torque vectoring. This presentation will introduce Michigan Scientific systems developed to address these challenges and highlight examples of solutions that our team has created for an array of challenging instrumentation applications.
  • Instrumentation solutions for various powertrain components
  • Instruments applicable to GTR21 standards testing
  • Approaches to rotor temperature and torque measurement
  • Instrumentation strategies for EV suspension and tire characterization
